Police Officer Suffering from PTSD Receives Heartfelt Gift
It's been a long and challenging journey for Brian, who suffers from PTSD due to his duties as a police officer. However, the pain remains not only for Brian, but also his wife Katrina, who has been by his side every step of the way.
Brian was one of the first police officers at the scene of the Kerang train crash in June 2007, and was a respected member of the force. He was forced to retire however, after being diagnosed with the mental illness, even though he was completely capable of serving.
'For Brian, vic pol was not a job it was a career, his life, his family, so he and the rest of our family have grieved for the loss of his job', Katrina said.
Brian and his family fought very hard to keep him in the force, with no success.
"Regardless of how severe or not, they are ill health retired out of the force. That is also why many members won’t speak out and get the help they need, as they don’t want to lose their job" stated Katrina.
Katrina found the perfect opportunity to create something meaningful for Brian in the form of a 1K Words canvas - a photo of Brian on his graduation day 21/12/1989, made out of the words to the oath he recited on the day he became a police officer.
